Valentines Day in Colombia

September 19, 2014

The rainy season has arrived, which means flooded streets in Barranquilla.

Hello all, I hope everyone is doing well. I am doing well. I have 3 more new students starting on Monday the 22nd. All three will be in one class together, which is great because I have virtually no time available for new students. My days now look like this: Monday - Friday 7am until 9pm I am with students; Saturday 8am until 8pm I'm with students. Sunday I usually have no students. I was told of an opportunity, a possibility, of teaching in a private bi-lingual school.

BarranquiJazz and my job at Kal Tire

September 18, 2014

One of the many very old churches in Barranquilla.

Hi everybody! I hope all are doing well. I am.

Things have changed quite a lot in my work situation - Kal Tire, my employer, is not my employer any more. I was laid off from my job, as well as 4 or 5 other people, here in Barranquilla, and many, many more at other Kal Tire locations worldwide. Hi everybody! I hope all are doing well. I am.

It had to arrive eventually - rainy season. A bit late, but coming on strong. Finally. All this entire year we've had only a half-dozen rains and all only a few minutes of light rain. This week the heavens broke loose. And it has been raining quite a lot, and quite heavily. A couple days ago I was on a bus going across town when the street was suddenly a river.

The Mallorquin in Barranquilla.

Hi everybody! I hope all are doing well. I am. It's been a long time since the last blog I posted, sorry about that.

So what's new here? Well, lets see, ah, rain. Ready for this? Here in Colombia, in Barranqilla, it has now rained 4 times. This year. And each time it lasted for less than 15 minutes. Pretty unbelievable, I know, after all, isn't this a tropical country? Yes. But here in Barranquilla it is a sub-tropical/temperate region.

I used to teach English as a foreign language in Barranquilla, Colombia. Now I'm retired and traveling throughout South America.

I'm from Kennewick, Washington, USA. In my previous life, as I call it, I was an IT guy, systems administrator, computer tech, as well as a shipping/receiving guy and also worked as a merchandising guy in a RV/Camping store.
