WriteMonkey and I have more new students

March 13, 2016

A view of the landscape of the department Santander, from the bus to Bogot?

I found this new text editor for writing my blogs. Instead of using MS Word I am now using WriteMonkey (writemonkey.com). After all, why use a huge memory pig, word processor if only writing a simple text document? WriteMonkey is a very stripped down writing application, with a minimal interface that doesn't get in your way or distract your from your actual work - writing. It does everything you would expect from a writing application, even to the point of having a few different sounds for your typing, so it can sound like you are working on a typewriter. There are many plug-ins available for people who donate to the developers. Otherwise, use it as is and it is free.

Ciénaga de Mallorquín

February 20, 2016

The ci?nega Mallorquin.

This past Saturday I went for a walk at the Ciénaga de Mallorquín. I hadn't been there yet, and had only seen a couple pictures of it. So I took a bus up north, about 8 kilometers (about 4 1/2 miles) from my apartment. In brief, it is a lagoon of the Caribbean Sea which separates Barranquilla from the Caribbean, and which is surrounded by mangroves. I posted pictures in the photo album, just look for Ciénaga de Mallorquín in the Colombia photo album.

Carnaval!

February 1, 2016

Carnaval in Barranquilla.

Hello to everyone!

The Carnaval has just finished on Tuesday the 9th, after a month of parties, dancing, concerts, and parades. This year I went to three of the major parades - the Batalle de Flores, The Gran Parada de Comparsas, and the Joselito se va con la Cenizas. I did not go to the Guacherna and Gran Parada de Tradicion. Maybe next year I will go to those. There are many pictures (taken with my cellphone, not a real camera) in the photo album so be sure to have a look at them.

Suggestions for learning English

January 24, 2016

One of the many dancers in the Barranquilla Carnaval.

Hello to everyone!

Let's see, what is new? I have made some changes to my group of students. I've replaced a few with new students. The ones I replaced were not exactly dependable, in that they had a tendency to cancel about half of their lessons each month. I've signed up two new students that have 5 lessons a week, and two others who are doing 3 lessons per week. I just hope these new students don't cancel so many lessons.

Happy New Year!

December 31, 2015

The city of Barranquilla, Colombia.

Hello to everyone! Happy new year to you all!

"Tomorrow is the first page of a 365 page book. Write a good one." - Brad Paisley.

I like that quote. I started my new book two and a half years ago, and no, it hasn't been all wine and roses, but I love my new life. I am sitting here in my little apartment, the front and back doors wide open and a very pleasant Caribbean breeze blowing through, drying my laundry hanging in the patio.
