Encarnación - A Small City That is Very Pleasant to Visit

Encarnación, Paraguay - the city proper has about 84,000 people in its urban area, about 107,000 in its administrative district, and roughly 173,000 in the metropolitan/urban agglomeration. This was my fifth visit to Encarnación. That's about 4 1/2 months total. I guess you could say I like this town. It's a very pleasant place.

I've now visited during the summer (Dec/Jan/Feb), fall (May), and winter (July/August), my current trip. Summers can be quite hot, as in 40+° C (100+°) which might sound surprising considering how far south this is, but probably no further south from the equator than southern Arizona is north. Tucson, AZ is roughly 340 miles further north of the equator than Encarnación is south; the seasons are reversed, so summer temps in Tucson of 40+ in June/July are roughly similar to Encarnación's 40+ temps in January/February. The big differences are in precipitation and humidity. Encarnación is green, Tucson is brown. (I lived in Tucson for about 7 years.)
Encarnación is a city I could easily choose to live in IF it had a more consistent climate throughout the year. I'm not a 4-season guy. Give me summer all year round, and I'm happy. Tucson is basically two seasons, hot and less hot. Encarnación has four seasons. I'll be settling down in Oxapampa, Perú, probably around the end of the year.
I used to teach English as a foreign language in Barranquilla, Colombia. Now I'm retired and traveling throughout South America.
