Sullana (pronounce the ll like a Y in English), is located in the northwest part of Perú was founded in July 1783. The entire metropolitan area of Sullana has about 200,000 people. Historianssay that this valley, the Chira Valley, used to be home to several indigenous groups as well as the Incas, that was until the Spanish conquistadors arrived in the early 1500s.
This valley is an agricultural area growing coconut palm trees, banana trees, rice paddy fields, cotton, and a recently added sugar cane plantation to produce maple ethanol for ethanol production.
The climate is called Tropical Savannah. The average daytime high is 30° C (86° F) and the average nightly low is 20° C (68° F). Sullana gets a measly 313mm (12 inches) of rain per year, and pretty much all of that falls between January and April. Right it is about the middle of March and it is supposed to be the wettest month of the year, and so far a week in the northern part of Peru and not a drop of rain. Humidity ranges between 62% and 67% all year round.
As for anything related to tourism, well, there isn't anything to see here. The malecon is old and nothing worth seeing, the viewpoint is of the bridge across the river. The city is sandy and dusty and old. Everything about it is old and not in good condition. The parks and plazas need to be renovated, the green spaces are terribly littered, and the entire city is simply decrepit.
I used to teach English as a foreign language in Barranquilla, Colombia. Now I'm retired and traveling throughout South America.
I'm from Kennewick, Washington, USA. In my previous life, as I call it, I was an IT guy, systems administrator, computer tech, as well as a shipping/receiving guy and also worked as a merchandising guy in a RV/Camping store.
