Poem - Who Are You?

October 30, 2019

Are you your own?
Are your thoughts you?
Are you thoughts your own?
Who are you when you are outside?
Who are you when you are alone?
We are who we are, yes?

We are who we were brought up to be.
We are who we were made to be.
We are who we were trained to be.

We are our parents.
We are our siblings.
We are our teachers.
We are our friends.

Are you who you want to be?
Are you who you think you are?
Very possibly, no.
Very probably, no.

To be who you want to be might be easy,
if you want to be the same.
Or, to be who you want to be might be difficult,
if you want to be different.
To be who you ought to be requires nothing,
if you want to be the same.
Or, to be who you ought to be requires strength,
if you want to be unique.
To be who you are requires nothing.
To be who you are is the easiest.

If you want to be the same.
Are you going to be the same?
Are you going to be everyone?
Are you going to be unique?
Are you going to be you?
Who are you? You or me?
