New Photos, Malecon

Jan 24, 2014

I have uploaded a few more pics into the Barranquilla photo album. Have a look and maybe leave comments on any photos you like.

Here in Barranquilla they are constructing a "malecon", it's a boardwalk but is not boards, it's concrete and tile. It's being built along the Magdalena River (the longest river in Colombia with its headwaters in the Andes Mountains). The picture is of the "older" section (as of today) but at the time I took the picture it was just about to be finished.

The plans show a shopping/hotel center along the malecon, creating a new tourist center, which the city desperately needs. The plans are to build another section further to the north along with a new convention center. Then that section and this will eventually be connected, as the businesses alongside the river are moved to a different, and new, industrial area on the other side of the city. It's a big undertaking and will take a few years, undoubtedly, but will result in a new tourist center for B'quilla. Which will be great for the city.
