Hi, first off, thanks again to the 4 poeple who have helped me with a bit of money. I really appreciate it. You don't know how much.
Now the news - So I was at the hotel San Gil but I ran out of money so I had to leave it. Where to go? I didn't know. I had my backpack with my laptop and speakers in it, one carry-on size suitcase and one duffle type suitcase. While i was out walking with my bags I came across a guy i have met a few times here - Rafael. He is a Colombian who has lived in the US, in Chicago, for quite a few years. He offered to let me stay at his place, and i would sleep on the floor. That was fine with me, better than outside in a field trying to hide from everyone else. So I have been there 3 nights now, or 2? I don't recall, the days all blend together. Then yesterday his landlord drives up and asks Rafael if he has someone there living with him. Apparently one of the neighbors called the landlord. Rafael explained the situation to his landlord, and his landlord has now said you have 3 days to move out. Not me, but both of us! Unbelievable!
So things have gone from bad to worse.
Last evening when I was out for a walk two people stopped me and asked me if I was the english teacher. (Many people around here know me by site as the English teacher). I said yes, and we talked a bit, and the girl wants to learn English. I gave her my card and she is supposed to call me to arrange for lessens. I hope so.
If I could get just 4 students I would be ok. Four students would give me 200mil pesos per week, 800 per month, approximately. That would be more than enough to live on in a cheap hotel. I found just such a place, only 12mil pesos per night (no a/c, 22mil per night with a/c). Only thing I don't like is that it is further south. That is the wrong way. I want to go north where I have more chances of getting paying students - people who work at the hotels where tourists stay.
Now I am at the point where my bank account is overdrawn and I owe the bank money. This sucks!
My sons says I should just give up and come back to the states. First of all I don't just give up. Second, I like it here. The trouble I am in is my own fault - I am too trusting. I need to not trust people. No matter how much they say can be verified as true, I have to stop trusting people. I don't like that. My whole life I have simply trusted people, that on the whole, people are good. But that is not true. People are not good. They are not trustworthy. And I am in big trouble. Even if i did give up and decide to return to the states, I don't have money to do that. So I am stuck between and rock and a hard place.IIF by chance anyone feels like helping me here is my bank account number, you can simply go to any Wells Fargo branch and make a deposit into my account.
I am able to get on the internet twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening, at the hotel where I was staying. At least they let me use their wifi for a little while.
If you can help - thank you very much, you don't know how much I appreciate it.
I teach english as a foreign language in Barranquilla, Colombia. In my previous life, as I call it, I was an IT guy, systems administrator, computer tech, as well as a shipping/receiving guy and also worked as a merchandising guy for a year for a camping/RV accessories store.
